Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl halftime show was excellent. She turned doubters into believers with an energetic set of her biggest hits — but it was the beginning that contained the big message people were waiting for, and you might have missed it.
The opening of the halftime show began with “God Bless America” and quickly transitioned into “This Land is Your Land,” Woody Guthrie’s famous 1944 song which was quickly adopted by protesters following the inauguration of President Donald Trump after he signed an executive order banning travel from predominantly Muslim countries.
Video can be seen here of people at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York singing the song during their recent protests.
Lady Gaga’s gesture denouncing President Trump wasn’t overt, but her second song carried plenty of meaning — which a lot of people probably missed.
