Warriors sweep Blazers, avoid conflict with Chance the Rapper show at Oracle

The Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers will face off in the first round of the playoffs, and the Warriors will almost surely win. They’re a historically good team who just saw Kevin Durant return to the lineup, and an upset seems pretty implausible.

Before the series even started, there was a Chance the Rapper concert scheduled at Oracle during what would have been Game 5. Expecting the Warriors will sweep the Blazers, though, feels a bit presumptuous. No one on Golden State is expecting that, to be fair. But is the NBA? Well, no need to worry because the sweep happened.

If Game 5, had happened, it would have been played on April 26 at Oracle Arena. The same night as the Chance concert.

Chance is getting bigger and bigger, but I initially thought maybe he wasn’t slated to perform at Oracle. I saw him in Dallas last year, and he played at a large concert venue rather than an even larger arena. (Highly recommend it, by the way.) But ...

Welp.

We reached out to Warriors PR, and they gave us this statement.

When booking concert events at the arena during a playoff run, we typically schedule contingency dates for that event. The Warriors will have the priority on April 26th.

A formal announcement for the Chance the Rapper show is in the works, pending that the show will be moved.

Good news for you if you have tickets to this show. It’s still on!
