Friday’s game between the Hartford Goat Yards and Binghamton Rumble Ponies had an eyebrow-raising moment in the eighth inning.
Rumble Ponies’ Cory Burns delivered a pitch that landed several feet away, while catcher Colton Plaia walked over to scoop it as it rolled over to him. Josh Fuentes of the Goat Yards didn’t think much of the throw, so he jokingly took a swing, and the umpire behind declared that he had swung, giving him a strikeout.
Cue immediate confusion among the players, with Fuentes freezing in place, and Plaia catching up to what’s going on, and suddenly Fuentes gets tagged.
The game eventually finished with a 5-4 win for the Rumble Ponies.
