Sports agent fired after running up $42,000 in Uber charges on NBA player’s credit card

A probe by the NBA Players Association led to the termination of Christian Dawkins, who was listed as part of the “Management Team” of ASM Sports before the agency deleted his profile. A memo released on Thursday by the NBAPA states that Dawkins used the credit card of an unnamed player to charge $42,000 in Uber rides between 2015 and 2016, of which only a few were authorized by the player.

It’s alleged that Dawkins used Uber 1,865 times between July 2015 and May 2016. Assuming the impropriety began on July 1 and ended on May 31, he used Uber on average 5.5 times per day, racking up average charges of $125 per day.

According to Uber’s “Fare Estimate,” it would cost $451 to take an Uber X from New York City to Washington, D.C. That’s a 226-mile journey. Assuming for one second you could find an Uber driver to take you on one continuous trip at the same price, you could drive 21,105 miles for $42,000 — or ... New York to New Delhi, India three times.

ASM Sports was exonerated of any wrongdoing, according to Yahoo! Sports. The agency only discovered Dawkins’ misuse of the credit card in May of 2016, at which point an investigation began. The agency represents Kyle Lowry, Kristaps Porzingis, and Jeff Teague, among others.
