The pressure of Canada being in a must-win curling match against Japan was too much to bear for the husband of curler Rachel Homan. While she competed on the ice and tried to pull her country back into medal contention, he was downing beers at 9 a.m. — just trying to keep the nerves at bay:
Favourite Olympic moment so far: Canadian curler Rachel Homan's husband double-fisting his third and fourth beers while watching his wife compete against Japan. It's 9am in Korea. Not all heroes wear capes. #PyeongChang2018 pic.twitter.com/jzrVsu06Vi

Shawn Germain, Homan’s husband, was seen making regular trips to keep himself socially lubricated throughout the game. The former EHCL hockey player missed the end of the match when Japan conceded because, you guessed it, he was at the stand getting more beer.
Best part was that he was out getting beers when the Japanese team conceded, came back in and the match was over.

Canada went on to win 8-3 and now sits in sixth place, fighting to make the semifinals. Beating Japan (which is currently in second) was a mammoth feat, and it kept Canada’s medal dreams alive. It’s a considerably more difficult job than standing around and drinking, but Germain felt the need to defend himself when the internet started having fun with his beer photos:
You can judge all you want. The stress level is high, I’m not a drunk, I’m just Canadian. #WeBelieve

Canada was behind him though:

If Canada makes it to the medal round, there’s no telling how much nervous drinking he’ll do.
Totally here for the memes.
