Donald Trump Nominates Himself As Mets' Savior

Donald Trump might join the Lords of Baseball? It's in the Times, so it must be true:

Trump said Tuesday that he called Fred Wilpon, the Mets’ principal owner, about two weeks ago to arrange a face-to-face meeting to discuss whether he is interested in buying at least a part of the club. The meeting has not yet been held, said Trump, who made it clear that he would be interested only in buying a majority stake in the team.

As to why he would not be interested in just a quarter of the team, Trump, referring to himself in the third person, said: "If you look at Trump’s record, he is only interested in things he can control," he said.

There's no way in hell that Trump winds up controlling the Mets. Major League Baseball has no interest in famous owners who won't take orders -- i.e. Mark Cuban -- and if the Wilpons are willing to cede majority ownership, there will be plenty of people just as rich as Trump, but quite a bit less famous, happy to toss in $500 million (or whatever).
