Cards' Michael Wacha with no-hitter through 7

The rookie flirts with perfection in a postseason game against the Pirates

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Cardinals rookie right-hander Michael Wacha, pitching in an elimination game against the upstart Pittsburgh Pirates, has a no-hitter going through seven innings. He had a perfect game through five, losing it on a four-pitch walk to Pirates catcher Russell Martin to open the fifth. Wacha has struck out eight, including Marlon Byrd twice. Byrd, Pedro Alvarez, and Russell Martin will bat in the eighth.

In Wacha's final start of the season on September 24, he carried a no-hitter through 8 and 2/3 innings before giving up an infield hit.
