The New York Yankees have selected Madison High School pitcher Ian Clarkin with the No. 33 pick in the 2013 MLB Draft.
Though Clarkin is felt to have top-of-the-rotation potential, the left-hander had a somewhat inconsistent senior year of high school. With what scouts are calling the best curve ball amongst the prep kids, Clarkin's overall stuff still makes him hard to pass up. According to Minor League Ball, Clarkin's fastball tops out at 94 mph and has a breaking ball that embarrasses hitters at 72-75 mph. Clarkin also has solid control of a changeup.
Clarkin finished his season with a 0.95 ERA and 133 strikeouts in 73 1/3 innings. Clarkin is committed to his hometown University of San Diego.
