Via Newsday, we have a high school baseball player achieving Maximum Kimbrel. Mike Delio struck out 21 batters and pitched a perfect game in his first varsity start for Carle Place High.
Delio, who pitched on junior varsity for the previous two seasons, said his strategy was to get ahead early in the count with fastballs on the corner and then attack with his knuckle-curve.
A junior with an apparently devastating knuckle-curve. It's probably time to set up a Baseball America alert for that name.
An aside: the performance brings to mind one of pro baseball's freakiest performances:Ron Necciai's 27-strikeout no-hitter, which is always worth sharing.
