His no-hitter didn’t come without some pretty spectacular defense. Here’s Dee Gordon giving Volquez a huge assist in the 4th inning.

Volquez finished off the no-hitter by striking out the side in the 9th inning — something that’s pretty rare.

Volquez has had a very tough year with the loss of his very close friends, Jose Fernandez and Yordano Ventura. Here’s the postgame interview where Volquez dedicates the no-hitter to Fernandez and Ventura.

What made the day really special, though, was that it is Yordano Ventura’s birthday. Earlier in the day, Volquez posted a tribute to Ventura on his Instagram account.
Such a special day for Edinson Volquez and the Marlins organization. This is the sixth no-hitter in Marlins history giving the team the most no-hitters thrown by any team in the MLB since the team was formed in 1993.
