The New York Mets finished off a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday, but the highlight of the series finale didn’t come from one of the players. In the seventh inning an innocuous foul ball suddenly had the Citi Field crowd cheering.
Asdrubal Cabrera hit a ball foul down the left field line that a Mets ballboy deftly read as it caromed off tarp. Then he laid out to make a great stop, diving into the tarp.
“This is big. That’s large,” said Keith Hernandez on the Mets’ SNY broadcast. “That’s a heck of a backhand.”
The cheers got even louder from Mets fans when later in the at-bat Cabrera homered to break a 1-1 tie. One pitch later Amed Rosario did the same. It was quite an eventful seventh inning in New York.
