Machado is getting traded this month, but where?

Manny Machado is going to get traded before the deadline. Whether that happens before or after the All-Star Game is debatable, but it happening is not. The odds of that are off the board. The Orioles are trading him away to try to get something for him before he leaves in free agency, but where is he going to end up?

The best part of the trade deadline is the rumor rush in July, of course, and no one has had more rumors attached to him so far than Machado. Here are all the rumors circling in one place.

July 17

It sure seems like Machado might have played his final game as an Oriole. Baltimore on Tuesday was said to going through medical information and trade paperwork, per Buster Olney.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that “barring a last minute snag” the Orioles will trade Machado to the Dodgers on Wednesday, while Ken Rosenthal says the Dodgers are “increasingly likely to land Machado.”

The Dodgers’ offer reportedly includes 21-year old minor league outfielder Yusniel Diaz, per John Heyman. The return for Baltimore will include only minor leaguers, per Rosenthal.

Machado before Tuesday’s All-Star Game told reporters he has heard nothing from the Orioles or his agent, per Bill Shaikin of the LA Times.

July 15

The Dodgers and Brewers are the leading teams in the bidding for Machado, per Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun.

July 15

The Yankees are in fact still “serious” about Machado, as are a handful of teams still in the hunt, per Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

July 14

The Brewers have become more aggressive in their pursuit of Machado, per Jon Heyman, Milwaukee and Philadelphia are “among the finalists” per Buster Olney, who also says the Orioles are “definitely motivated to get a deal done ASAP.

July 14

Andy Martino says the Phillies and Dodgers are “strong suitors” for Machado, with the Brewers and Yankees remaining in play.

July 14

The Orioles would prefer to trade Machado and reliever Zach Britton separately rather than a package deal, per Ken Rosenthal.

July 14

The Yankees ‘seem less involved” in Machado discussions, per Ken Rosenthal, with the Dodgers, Brewers and Phillies still in the mix.

July 13

Ken Rosenthal reports the Phillies increased their offer for Machado. He also reports that things are constantly changing and could switch any minute. So who knows what’s going on.

July 13

Milwaukee, who were a strong candidate only days ago, now seem to be “fading” as a contender for Machado. Such are the fickle ways of the trade deadline.

July 12

The Yankees’ interest continues, but who knows what “strong” offer means? Strong according to the Orioles? Strong according to a Yankees insider who leaked this opinion to a reporter hoping it would pressure the Orioles into accepting it? Probably the second option. The one thing we know is that Justus Sheffield doesn’t look to be part of the offer.

July 10

Shortly after it came to light that the Yankees were in on Machado, the Red Sox also reportedly joined the fray. It mostly seems like a play to raise the price for New York, but you never know!

July 11

The Orioles reportedly want Justus Sheffield in return if they were to send Machado to the Yankees. That’s a big ask, as Sheffield is one of the Yankees’ best pitching prospects and they’ve been remiss to part with him in the past.

July 10

The Phillies are a frontrunner for Baltimore’s star, allegedly willing to give up the type of prospects that would make a trade worth it for the Orioles. Of course, Philadelphia would also make a great landing spot for Machado in the offseason once free agency rolls around so the might just wait this one out and spend their money instead of trading players.

July 9

Oh look, the Yankees decided to join the party! What a surprise. There’s no star that New York won’t at least be “interested” in and Machado is no exception. While many expected them to wait until free agency due to the Orioles’ notorious refusal to trade players to the Yankees, there are firsts for everything.

Another frontrunner, the Brewers and Machado are one of the best fits of any team rumored to be after him right now. They need the bat, and their postseason chances would look even better than they already do with him on the roster. (As any team’s chances would, to be fair.)

July 3

Manny Machado and the Dodgers aren’t a perfect fit, but they were reportedly interested in him enough for it to become a rumor. Since they’ve since rebuffed pretty much every package request the Orioles have made this looks like just tire kicking for now though.

The rumors connecting Manny Machado to the Phillies have started to swirl. How legit are they?

June 7

An early look at the possible market for Machado. A lot of teams will be interested, not all of them will be a fit.
