Maurice Edu is Motivated | MLS Insider Presented by adidas

Born to Nigerian parents in Southern California, Edu draws inspiration from his family as he pursues his childhood dreams. Around the time that Maurice committed to play at the University of Maryland, his father suffered a stroke that left him disabled. Despite the hardship, the Edu family continued to support Mo's playing career. He won an NCAA title with Maryland, was selected first overall by Toronto FC in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, earned 2007 MLS Rookie of the Year honors, played for Glasgow Rangers in Scotland, and represented the United States at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. With the sting of missing the 23-man roster for Brazil still fresh, Edu sees his family after a recent Philadelphia Union game.
