I took this video on my phone of the Rogers Centre at approximately 3 p.m. ET, long before the UFC 129 fights will begin. As you can see, the setup is absolutely unreal. I've never seen an MMA event like this and frankly, I'm frightened I'm going to lose my hearing. If the audio set up from the UFC doesn't do it, the fans very likely will.
There doesn't even appear to be a bad seat in the house. The center jumbo tron is in crisp high def and there are 10 other screen throughout the area by my count. This is one of those events where the magnitude of it excuses whatever poor view of the action one has. In this case, fans who find it hard to see the fights directly will still find themselves able to catch at least one of the major screens to enjoy the fights.
I was asked when the UFC might do a stadium show again. My response is not soon if for no other reason than the effort required to pull it off. This has clearly taken an unreal amount of effort to put this together. There are so many moving parts, so many details to get right, so many potential obstacles. Yet, so far, it appears the UFC has done it.
Maybe I spoke too soon.
