The string of middling UFC Fight Night events is set to be broken on Saturday, as the UFC will host a packed — and free — card from São Paulo, Brazil featuring Derek Brunson taking on Lyoto Machida in the main event. Demian Maia, Jim Miller and Thiago Santos will also be in action on the card.
Saturday’s action begins at 7 p.m. ET with prelims on UFC Fight Pass, continues at 8 p.m. with more prelims on Fox Sports 2 and finally, continues at 10 p.m. with the main card on Fox Sports 1. Live streaming can be had via UFC Fight Pass and Fox Sports GO.
Machida has struggled in recent years, going 1-3 in his last four fights. But he’s been facing top competition since moving to middleweight. He lost to Yoel Romero in his last outing, and to Luke Rockhold prior to that. Both fights were finished. Machida’s last win was a TKO over C.B. Dollaway in December 2014.
This will be Machida’s first bout in over two years.
Brunson is coming off a knockout win over Dan Kelly in June 2017, but prior to that lost two consecutive bouts, falling to Robert Whittaker and Anderson Silva. He had won five fights in a row prior to that. He’ll work his way back into title contention with a win over Machida.
In the co-feature, welterweights Demian Maia and Colby Covington will face each other. Maia is still one of the most dangerous, fun competitors in the sport so any time he’s in action, it’s worth watching.
Miller will be taking on Francisco Trinaldo, while Santos will face Jack Hermansson, both on the main card. Pedro Munhoz will also face Rob Font in a main card bout. Said main card will open with a match between John Lineker and Marlon Vera.
