It's Carb Day out at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which is the last chance for teams to practice before Sunday's Indianapolis 500. Carb Day is also a chance for fans to get out to the track, have fun, get a free concert (Lynyrd Skynyrd), see practice and also see the pit stop competition.
The heat continues as we close out the week and head into the weekend with highs in the low 90s. The record high for the Indianapolis 500 is 92, set back in 1937. It appears very likely we will tie or even break that record this Sunday.
Besides the very high heat, there is a slight chance of isolated storms this afternoon for central Indiana. What does this mean exactly? Will it or won't it rain today? An isolated threat of storms means we will have more dry time than wet, but a few storms could form during the heat of the day and drift over the track. Although the odds are in favor of mostly sunny, hot and dry afternoon, a single storm can't be ruled out.
Saturday and Sunday are just going to be scorchers. With highs in the 90s and moisture in the air, it is going to feel more like the mid-90s. It will be important for any fans going to the track or parade this weekend to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. I know alcohol is the preferred beverage of choice, but throw in a couple bottles of water for good measure. Beer and other alcoholic beverages can cause you to become dehydrated faster.
It's also important to wear loose, light colored clothing. It's going to be hot, so there's no reason to make it feel hotter with that awesome black t-shirt you just bought. Dark colors absorb the rays from the sun, making the shirt – and you – hotter. Take breaks, keep an eye on your friends, and have plenty of water and find shade whenever you feel over heated.
