It took just three laps before a multi-car crash slowed the rain-delayed Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
The accident began when David Gilliland, thinking he had no one underneath him, attempted to slide down to the bottom groove off Turn 4. Unbeknownst to him, Clint Bowyer was alongside and when Gilliland cut down, he came across the nose Bowyer's Toyota, which sent Gilliland spinning in front of a large pack.
Nine drivers sustained damage, including Daytona 500 winner Joey Logano and Danica Patrick, who was fastest in second practice Friday.
The night's first caution followed the start of the race being delayed 3 hours and 34 minutes due to rain.
