Dion Waiters didn't receive the most buzz during the most recent college basketball season while playing for the Syracuse Orange. At least one NBA team was enamored with him enough at this week's NBA Draft Combine, however, that it has apparently promised to pick him in the 2012 NBA Draft.
Waiters was in attendance for the beginning of the combine and even interviewed with several teams on the first night of the event before things got weird. The guard left Chicago on Thursday with many in attendance speculating he's received a promise from a lottery team that they'll select him.
While there are plenty of teams that have been rumored to be the culprit, with the Portland Trail Blazers, Toronto Raptors and Phoenix Suns among them, the only response the Internet has seen thus far comes from the Raptors.
Sources say Waiters was immediately on a flight home to Philadelphia and has indeed shut down workouts... sources peg Phoenix as the spot

Raptor GM Bryan Colangelo was genuine in his denial on Dion Waiters... went on a rant saying "Why Me? Why am I the guy making promises"

For what it's worth, Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears was still reporting as of Friday morning that Waiters' promise is indeed from Colangelo up in Toronto.
Risky business, yeah?
