The Golden State Warriors have agreed to a multi-year contract extension with Stephen Curry that will net the point guard $44 million. The extension will cover four years, and Curry is expected to sign the deal sometime on Wednesday, according to Marcus Thompson of the Bay Area News Group.
Curry battled an ankle injury for much of last season, but has been one of the league's top young guards when healthy. He has averaged 17.5 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game since being drafted with the seventh pick out of Davidson in 2009. Curry has hit 44 percent of his threes as a pro, and pairs with Klay Thompson to form one of the best sharpshooting backcourts in the NBA.
Golden State gets its regular season going on Wednesday night against the Phoenix Suns in U.S. Airways Arena. Curry's status for the game is still up in the air, but it is likely that he will play after practicing on Monday.
