The Dallas Mavericks and Lamar Odom have parted ways, according to a report by Marc Stein of ESPN.com. Ever since being traded to the Mavs from the Los Angeles Lakes, Odom has struggled to stay on the court and with his play, averaging just 6.6 points per game on the season.

"The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it's in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team," Odom said in a statement to ESPN.com. "I'm sorry that things didn't work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs' organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship."

Stein reports that the departure for Odom will be immediate and the Mavericks will simply list Odom as "inactive" for the remainder of the season instead of just out right releasing him. This leads the possibility of still being able to trade Odom during the offseason and get something in return.
