Frank Vogel Says Heat Are 'Biggest Flopping Team In NBA'

New, comments

Are you ready for some manufactured controversy? Good! So is Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel. On Thursday, with his team gearing up to play the Miami Heat in the second round of the 2012 NBA Playoffs, Vogel decided to call out his opponent just for the hell of it.

"They are the biggest flopping team in the NBA," Vogel said. "It will be very interesting to see how the referees officiate this series and how much flopping they reward.

"Every time you drive to the basket, they've got guys not making a play on the ball, but sliding in front of drivers, often times they're falling down before contact is even made. It'll be very interesting to see how this series is officiated."

Whether there's an element of truth to Vogel's statement is pretty irrelevant. Lots of teams take charges and exaggerate contact, including, probably, Vogel's Pacers.

My guess: this is really just a way for Vogel to try to deflect media attention off a different element of this series that he doesn't want to talk about. What that element is, I don't know. But no matter what, I'm sure it's not so scary that Vogel has to go scorched earth on his opponent before the series even begins.

Try being more subtle next time, Frank. That usually works better.
