Chris Paul Injury: Clippers Guard Has Surgery To Repair Torn Ligament In Thumb, Out For 8 Weeks

Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul underwent successful surgery on his right thumb on Tuesday, the team announced on Tuesday. Paul is expected to miss eight weeks, and barring any setbacks, he should be ready for the start of Clippers training camp, which is 10 weeks away.

Hand specialist Dr. Steven Shin performed the surgery at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.

Paul sprained the thumb while attempting a steal during the first day of Team USA's pre-Olympics training camp in July. He missed a few scrimmages, but managed to play a key role on the U.S. team's run to a gold medal in London, starting all eight games and averaged 8.3 points, 5.1 assists and 2.5 steals in just under 26 minutes per game.

Paul finished third in NBA MVP voting last season, leading the Clippers to the second round of the playoffs after being acquired from the New Orleans Hornets before the year began. He averaged 19.8 points, 9.1 assists and a league-leading 2.5 steals per game last season.
