The first day of the second week of our 3 on 3 NBA Tournament didn't yield any surprises.
In the East, the third-seeded Indiana Pacers, with Danny Granger, Paul George and Lance Stephenson, easily handled last year's Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving and his Cleveland teammates, Anderson Varejao and Dion Waiters. Our panel of experts gave the Pacers a 68 percent of winning any single meeting against these Cavs, and when the dice came up 30 and 46 it put the Pacers through in a sweep. In the second round Indiana will meet the winner of Orlando and Detroit.
Out West, the Lakers aren't just star-studded but MVP-studded (Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant have won MVPs and Dwight Howard finished second in 2011) and they were a heavy, 84 percent, favorite over Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Andrew Bogut of the Golden State Warriors. That series also was a sweep, with rolls of 64 and 59. The Lakers will face the winner of Tuesday's Denver vs. Phoenix contest in the second round.
