Greg Oden is expected to choose his team on Friday, according to a report from the ESPN tandem of Jeff Goodman and Marc Stein. There have been multiple false alarms regarding when the former first-overall pick would make his decision, but it now sounds like it will happen before the weekend begins.
Oden received formal offers from the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, New Orleans Pelicans and Sacramento Kings earlier in the week, but is reportedly likely to choose from just the first three. ESPN's report does say that the Pelicans are still in the mix, but it sounds as though both the Hawks and Kings will have to move on to Plan B.
Miami has long been considered the favorite to land Oden, but none of the above destinations would be bad environments for him. The problem with the Heat, though, is that he'll likely be more in the spotlight than he would in the other cities -- a potential problem considering his long layoff could lead to problems early in his comeback bid.
