Aaron Gordon's a very young, very promising member of the Magic who just had an exciting showing in Orlando Summer League going into his sophomore season. It sounds like he won't be playing much more basketball this summer, though, because of an injury suffered in an unusual way, via The Orlando Sentinel:
Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon underwent surgery Tuesday in California to repair a fractured jaw and is expected to return by the start of the regular season, according to team spokesman Joel Glass.
Glass said Gordon suffered the jaw injury when Gordon was visiting his family and was horsing around with his older brother, Drew, who appeared in nine games last season with the Philadelphia 76ers.
That timeframe is a relief, because it'd be a real shame to miss time at a crucial career juncture because of an off-court injury.
Also, props to Gordon for (I assume) being honest about how he suffered his injury. Guys like Vladimir Radmanovic and Monta Ellis have gotten in trouble for lying about off-court incidents -- probably because of specific contract breaches -- but I find it very unlikely that a guy trying to mislead his team about how he hurt himself would offer the excuse of wrasslin' with his brother.
Feel better, Aaron. And maybe go easy on the roughhousing.
