Anthony Davis made the Pistons brow down

Good morning. We have that and more in Monday's NBA newsletter.

Good morning. Let's basketball.

EXPLAINING THE TRADE DUDLINE: Paul Flannery's Sunday Shootaround explains why the NBA trade deadline was just a bust with special attention to the Celtics' inactivity. The upshot: this is all setting up for a wild offseason for Boston and likely everyone. Plus, Paul gives you the best quotes and links of the week. Check it out.

BROW DOWN: Anthony Davis had 59 points and 20 rebounds against Detroit. Fifty-nine and twenty. He's only the third player to ever do it, the other two being Wilt and Shaq. (Shaq did it once. Wilt did it like 30 times in one season or something.) The two highest-scoring individual games of the season now belong to The Brow and Boogie Cousins (who had 56 not that long ago).

MAN: The Cavaliers absolutely smoked the Thunder in OKC on national TV Sunday. Kevin Love trashed Serge Ibaka, Dion Waiters is in some kind of slump and Cleveland is looking good out of the break. Maybe that lady sitting courtside shouldn't have yelled at LeBron to "just suck it up" ...

PREVIOUSLY ... Back on Friday, Damian Lillard hung 51 on the Warriors as Portland got the huge upset. Yep, Dame's mad. Here's Zito Madu on how the All-Star snub followed by the outburst became instant legend.

SCORES GALORE ...

YOUR MONDAY STANDINGS CHECK: The top of the East is static: Cleveland leads Toronto by four for No. 1, and T-Dot leads Boston by four for No. 2. Then there's a jumble: only three games separate No. 3 Boston and No. 8 Chicago. Charlotte -- who'd been bouncing in and out of the bracket earlier -- is No. 7 right now. Detroit is No. 9, 2.5 games out. Washington is closing in, another game behind Detroit. Orlando is one more game back.

In the West, Golden State is up three on San Antonio, and OKC is seven back from the Spurs. The Clippers hold at No. 4, and Memphis is currently sticking in No. 5 with a three-game cushion. Dallas has just a half-game lead on Portland for No. 6 and Houston's a game back the Blazers for No. 8. Utah's trailing the Rockets by a half-game. The Kings trail Houston by four games.

TIEBREAKER ALERT: With a win on Sunday, Portland claimed a potentially important head-to-head tiebreaker over Utah.

FLOAT BOY! Your new favorite superhero.

COOL: In Kobe's last appearance in Chicago, he was introduced by old pal Pau Gasol. One of my favorite friendships in the league.

BOOM: Ricky O'Donnell makes the case that the Bulls are a complete organizational failure.

BUYOUT SWEEPSTAKES: David Lee to Dallas, Anderson Varejao to Golden State and Steve Novak to the Bucks. Will Joe Johnson hit the market? If so, he's going to Cleveland, right?

MYLES TO GO: Awesome Candace Buckner piece on Myles Turner.

HEY: Wanna see the Lakers' team doc pop Kobe's dislocated finger back into place?

DYSFUNCTION: Sam Amick explains why the Kings are so dysfunctional.

LEFT MY HEART IN OAKLAND: Amos Barshad writes about how in three years the Warriors will be breaking Oakland's heart by moving across the bay.

JAH OR NO? Nice thoughts from Jonathan Tjarks on the problems with Jahlil Okafor and offense-first centers in general.

OF COURSE: Despite recent losses, the Warriors and Spurs are still poised to have two of the greatest seasons of all-time.

GOOD LORD: Dirk becomes the sixth player all-time to hit 29,000 points for his career. He'll probably hit 30,000 next December and could pass Wilt for No. 5 all-time by the end of next year.

GOOD MORNING, NEW CURBED! Curbed is Vox Media's cities/homes/neighborhoods/architecture/living vertical. It's awesome, and it relaunched on Monday. Check it out.

ON THE AIR TONIGHT: NBA TV has Warriors-Hawks (8 p.m. ET). We'll be keeping tabs on Pistons-Cavaliers (7) and Pacers-Heat (7:30), too.

Happy Monday. See you next time.
