The Rockets were unbelievably good in Game 1 against the Spurs

Houston is a real problem for the Spurs right now.

The Houston Rockets are good. We’ve known it all season, but now it’s real. It’s really real. James Harden is a basketball savant and this team just destroyed the Spurs in San Antonio for Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals.

The Rockets won Game 1, 126-99, handing Gregg Popovich one of his worst playoff loss since 2007. The domination started early for Houston, going into the half with a 69-39 lead. A 30-point lead at halftime against the Spurs. The Rockets are good.

They had an absurd first half, shooting 48.9 percent from the field, 44 percent from behind the arc, and 100 percent from the free throw line.

They also hit 12 three-pointers in the first half.

In the second half, the Rockets were just toying with the Spurs as Harden was making passes between his legs. At one point, the Rockets were up by 39 points.

Harden also poured in a playoff career-high 14 assists to go with his 20 points and he didn’t have to play in the fourth quarter of a playoff game.

The Rockets ended the night hitting 22 three-pointers and, honestly, would have hit a lot more but their starters didn’t play the final 12 minutes. They finished the night with an efficient 30 assists on 40 shots as a team. Whew.

We saw on Monday night exactly how dangerous the Rockets could be. It all came together and there was nothing the Spurs could do about it. It will be interesting to see how the Spurs respond.
