Typically, the noise that interrupts a commissioner when they’re stepping to the podium to announce a draft pick is incessant booing. Jeering commishes is something of an event in and of itself at drafts. But rarely is the interruption just ambient noise. That’s what happened to Adam Silver as he went to announce the 12th pick in the NBA Draft.
The best part about it is that Silver totally looks like a high school science teacher giving his class an “I’ll wait,” sarcastic pause when you’re waiting for someone to shut up. It sounded like the in-arena sound in Barclays Center, perhaps playing the ESPN audio of the draft coverage wasn’t cut off when it was supposed to.
Either way, it put Silver in an interesting spot. The draft’s a high-pressure event, and it’s never a great look when things don’t go as planned, especially when it’s something like this on national television.
