The Chicago Bulls made a bad trade in the opening minutes of the 2017 NBA draft, when they sent Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves along with their No. 16 pick for Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the No. 7 pick which became Lauri Markkanen. They really botched trading their superstar.
The trade gave Chicago three questionable building pieces and cost them a franchise cornerstone. The move felt rushed and was a depressing outcome given Butler’s worth. It’s difficult for Bulls fans to talk themselves into the trade because it was an absolute steal for Minnesota.
It’s impossible to convince NBA 2K that this trade was reasonable too, according to a Reddit post. Actually, it really pisses off the general manager that a team would even offer Chicago a deal like this.
The terminology the game uses is too perfect.
You’re asking me to give away a valuable asset (Jimmy Butler) when none of the assets I get back seems nearly as valuable. That’s not happening.
It literally described all of the Bulls’ fans feels.
LaVine is coming off an ACL injury, Dunn had a poor rookie season, and Markkanen is an elite shooter with little else to offer at this point. This was an uneven trade, and even 2K knows it.
What are you doing, Bulls?
