Mario Chalmers making NBA return with Grizzlies on one-year deal, per report

Mario Chalmers is finalizing a one-year deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal is partially guaranteed.

Aside from his clutch three-point shot, which helped his Kansas team win a national collegiate title, Chalmers is best known for his run alongside LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade, winning back-to-back championships with the Miami Heat in 2012 and 2013.

Chalmers played seven and a half seasons in Miami, averaging nine points in 525 games. He was the team’s starting point guard in its championship runs.

Chalmers was traded in November 2015, along with James Ennis, to the Memphis Grizzlies for Jarnell Stokes and Beno Udrih. Chalmers only played 55 games, though, as he ruptured his achilles tendon in March. He was consequently waived from the roster, and didn’t make an appearance in the 2016-17 NBA season.

Now, the 31-year-old gets a second chance with the team that cut him after his injury nearly two years ago. If he’s back to full health, he should be able to provide quality minutes off the bench.
