Everything you need to know about the ‘NBA 2K’ League combine

Get ready.

It’s almost February, and the NBA 2K League is getting closer to draft day. If you have your 50 ProAM wins, you will be able to apply for the NBA 2K combine come February. The purpose of this stage is to separate the button-mashing cheesers from the real deal.

After much anticipation, details about the combine have been released!

Here’s what you need to know.

Participants must play a minimum of 40 games using their primary position

Whichever position you're best at, you should go with it and stick to it for these 40 games. This games will consist of four, six-minute quarters, with rules from 2K’s standard Pro-Am mode. Whether you’re a center or a point guard, you will have to pick your position wisely because you can only compete in one position throughout the combine.

These positions have limited archetype combinations per position.

Unlike your usual MyCareer, you will have a much smaller range of builds to choose from for your combine player. These combinations depend on your position. For example, you can’t be a Pure Stretch Power Forward. Of the 25 possibilities I saw on the site, only five involve defense. There are no pure point forwards either.

Here are the archetypes you can choose from:

Point Guard

Shot-Creating Slasher
Shot-Creating Sharpshooter
Slashing Playmaker
Sharpshooting Playmaker
Playmaking Shot Creator

Shooting Guard

Playmaking Slasher
Sharpshooting Defender
Slashing Shot Creator
Sharpshooting Shot Creator
Pure Sharpshooter

Small Forward

The League is watching

The league will pick the best of the best by doing the following:

During the combine, the NBA 2K League will measure high-level statistics such as points, rebounds and assists, as well as more in-depth statistics such as shot release time, pass to assist and block efficiency.

Following the combine, all player information will be evaluated and used to determine the top 102 players available for the draft.

Yes, it’s 102 players now.

Each of the 17 teams will have six players, not five.
