The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 8 and rumors are heating up all around the league. If the trade deadline seems early this year, that’s because it is. The NBA moved the date ahead of All-Star weekend to avoid the type of drama we saw last year when DeMarcus Cousins was essentially traded during the All-Star Game.
Plenty of big trades have already happened this year, starting all the way back in June. Jimmy Butler was sent to the Timberwolves during the NBA draft, Chris Paul orchestrated a trade to Houston, OKC snagged both Paul George and Carmelo Anthony, Kyrie Irving and Isaiah Thomas swapped teams, and Blake Griffin was sent to Detroit. Whew. And that’s not even all of it.
Even the Clippers decided to extend Lou Williams’ contract rather than trade him.
So is there anything left for the trade deadline? Sure. We could still see the Clippers move DeAndre Jordan. We may see Tyreke Evans on the move from Memphis. Marcus Smart could be on his way out from Boston. There could still be plenty of action heading into Thursday.
