Luka Doncic became the youngest player in Liga ACB history to record a triple-double on Wednesday, according to Euro Hoops’ Antonis Stroggylakis. Doncic scored 17 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished 10 assists. His Real Madrid team beat Real Betis, 104-89.
Notching a triple-double is rare in European leagues given the slower pace of games, and reduced time, as teams play four quarters at 10-minute each. It’s all the more impressive given his age (19), and relative inexperience.
Here’s highlights from the game:
Doncic is one of the brightest young players in the world, starring for Real Madrid, which many consider to be the top basketball program outside of the NBA. Doncic is a consensus top-two pick, and most likely will be the first name called in June’s NBA Draft.
To get an idea of how teams are already preparing for Doncic, the Phoenix Suns just hired his Slovenian national team head coach Igor Kokoskov for their head coaching position. The NBA Draft lottery hasn’t yet revealed who will be given the top pick, but Phoenix has the best odds.
Doncic will not participate in the NBA Draft combine, though he was invited. Fans will have to likely wait until Summer League to see him play in America.
