Billy Gillispie Hired As Texas Tech Basketball Coach, Replacing Pat Knight

Billy Gillispie, AKA “Billy Clyde” AKABCG,” has been hired as Texas Tech Red Raiders basketball coach, taking over for the recently fired Pat Knight. Gillispie rumors have been circulating for almost a week now, with the school confirming the move Sunday:

“I am very excited to welcome Billy Clyde Gillispie to Texas Tech,” said director of athletics Kirby Hocutt. “Over the past two weeks I have had the opportunity to spend significant time with Billy and I am absolutely confident that he will lead our basketball program back to the national spotlight while positively representing our university.”

Gillispie has experience coaching in Texas, having led UTEP and Texas A&M to success before taking over at Kentucky.

Shortly after being fired by UK, Gillispie sued the school for breach of contract. Kentucky countered that, despite being in Lexington for two seasons, Gillispie had never actually signed a contract. The suit was settled. Do coaching changes ever happen at Texas Tech without lawsuits being involved in one way or another?
