Gus Johnson's CBS departure is now official, as FOX has finally announced the long-time voice of March Madness as its new lead college football play-by-play man. He'll be paired with Charles Davis for Pac-12, Big 12 and Conference USA games this fall, along with a couple Big Ten games and the Cotton Bowl, which sometimes involves Les Miles! The dream is alive!
College basketball hasn't entirely lost Gus, as he'll call Big Ten games and the Pac-12 tournament. The NFL will have to wait its turn, however, as he'll only call pro games once the college season is over with.
Johnson commented on the move in such a Gus Johnson manner that you sort of think his lines were written for him:
Ahhhhhh! I am beyond excited to join the FOX Sports family today. Being able to call play-by-play for the nation's premier collegiate football conferences like the Big Ten, Pac-12 and Big 12 is a tremendous honor and I can't wait to get started! Is it August yet?
Other sports announcers: if press releases on your hiring do not involve screaming, you are a lesser sports announcer and should strive to do better.
