College Football Rankings: Big East Places Zero Teams In Week 9 USA Today Poll

How bad is the Big East?

Well, no teams from the conference make the cut in the top 25 of the USA Today coaches poll for Week 9. Just two teams (West Virginia and Syracuse) received votes, and one of those teams hasn't scored more than 20 points against a BCS conference opponent. (It's Syracuse.)

The worst Big East team is probably Connecticut, which has wins over Texas Southern, Buffalo — possibly the worst team in FBS — and Vanderbilt. The Huskies' best performance this season was probably launching Denard Robinson's Heisman campaign in their season-opening loss to Michigan, and I mean best sarcastically: every other team Michigan has played has put up at least 21 points on the Wolverines, but UConn could only manage 10.

Every Big East team is currently 5-2, 4-3, or 3-4. That's not impressive, especially considering how larded the early-season non-conference Big East schedules were. It's just an indication that the Big East team that wins the conference and makes a BCS bowl will be the worst automatically qualifying BCS participant in the history of the system.
