2010 Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl Game: Time, Location, History, And More

To help prime you for the first of four consecutive game days this week, we've compiled this handy list of fun factoids concerning the 2010 Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl.

Proper name: Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl St. Petersburg, with all attendant apostrophes

Setting: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida (home of the Tampa Bay Rays and those infernal catwalks!)

Traditional conference pairing: Big East & Conference USA

2010 matchup: Louisville Cardinals (6-6) vs. Southern Miss Golden Eagles (8-4)

Announcers: The reliably excellent Rece Davis will once again suffer the grave misfortune of being partnered with Lou Holtz and Mark May, with Rob Stone rocking the sidelines.

Neatest fact: Nothing. This game has only been around since 2008. Unless you count the bizarro pan-everything menu of the title sponsor's restaurants, in which case, enjoy your Nachos 'O' Brady, Corned Beef Wontons, and Signature Irish Limeade. (We only made one of those up.)

Closest finish: Last year's 45-24 trouncing of Central Florida by Rutgers.

Most lopsided finish: The inaugural 41-14 beatdown of Memphis by South Florida. Man, Memphis in a bowl game. Those were the days, right?

Tidbits of interest:
Each team boasts a pair of strong contenders for your college football All-Name Team, with Louisville contributing Senorice Perry and Byron Stingily, and Southern Miss' Furious Bradley and Arsenio Favor.

On a less cheeky note, Golden Eagles Linebacker Martez Smith, paralyzed from the waist down since a November shooting outside a Hattiesburg nightclub, had hoped to attend the bowl game with his teammates, but was re-hospitalized Thursday in Mississippi for further surgery. Teammates Deddrick Jones and Tim Green, also victims in the shooting, were able to make the trip to St. Petersburg. Golden Eagles DE Cordarro Law will play wearing Smith's jersey tonight.

The 2010 Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl kicks off at 8 p.m. EST, Tuesday, December 21. The game will be televised on ESPN. Browse our complete 2010 college football postseason schedule, and connect with Louisville fans at SB Nation's Card Chronicle.
