Sun Bowl To Rematch Miami And Notre Dame

Prepare for perhaps the most highly-anticipated matchup of middling teams in this 2010 college football postseason. In a rematch of the charmingly-named "Catholics Vs. Convicts" rivalry, the Miami Hurricanes will meet the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in this year's Hyundai Sun Bowl, on December 31 in El Paso.

The 7-5 'Canes will presumably still be operating under the hand of interim head coach Jeff Stoutland, following the ouster of Randy Shannon. The Miami football team in Ohio finished with more votes in the AP and Coaches' Polls than the boys from Florida.

Notre Dame, also 7-5, finishes the season similarly unranked after close losses to Michigan, Tusa, and Michigan State, and un-close losses to Stanford and Navy.

You may remember the Sun Bowl for playing peripheral roles in such tales as Oklahoma fans fearing to set foot in El Paso because of its proximity to Ciudad Juarez (2009), or for hosting the worst postseason college football game in modern memory (2008). Imagine what wonders await in 2009, when South Florida meets Middle America on the afternoon of New Year's Eve. We might have to pay for a ticket to this thing ourselves, just to sit in the stands and watch the fans shriek bloody murder.
