College Football Awards: Gus Malzahn Wins Frank Broyles Award As Nation's Top Assistant Coach

Auburn Tigers offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is a hot item on the coaching rumor circuit right now, and with good reason. His system and guidance provided Cam Newton the tools to … well, to win like every award of the night so far.

The Tigers finished seventh in the nation in yards per game and sixth in points. In 2008, the year before Malzahn came aboard with Gene Chizik, they finished 104th in yards and 111th in scoring. So yeah, you could say he deserves this award.

Before Malzahn joined Auburn, he put together one of the most explosive offenses in NCAA history at Tulsa. The question was whether his talents would take hold in the SEC, and they certainly did, at least with Newton around to run and throw the ball.

Join Track Em Tigers to celebrate this and every other award, because they’re just going to keep winning them.
