College Football Rankings: Michigan, West Virginia Look Good For BCS Bowl Spots

While the final BCS rankings will not be released until Sunday evening, the AP Poll and Coaches Poll are out and give us a pretty good indication of who we can expect to qualify for the BCS bowl games.

Three teams are vying for the Big East autobid, the West Virginia Mountaineers, Louisville Cardinals and Cincinnati Bearcats. The tiebreaker goes to the team with the highest ranking in the final BCS Standings. Most folks expected that to be West Virginia and based on the fact that West Virginia is No. 22 and Cincinnati is No. 24, the Mountaineers should be able to squeak out a victory. WVU would likely play Clemson in the Orange Bowl.

Meanwhile, the Michigan Wolverines are one of the most highly-prizes brands and traditions in college football and any BCS Bowl would be likely to snatch them up so long as they finish within the Top 15 of the final BCS Standings. With a No. 12 ranking in the Coaches Poll, it's a good indication that they'll qualify and could end up in the Fiesta Bowl or Sugar Bowl.

We can fee pretty confident that No. 2 Alabama will be playing either for the national title or, at the very least, Sugar Bowl. Other schools likely in the Top 15 hoping to hear a call from the BCS for those final two spots are No. 4 Stanford, No. 6 Boise State, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 10 Kansas State, No. 11 Virginia Tech, No. 13 Michigan State and No. 15 TCU.

LSU (SEC), Clemson (ACC), Oregon (Pac-12), Oklahoma State (Big 12) and Wisconsin (Big 10) are the other BCS automatic qualifiers.
