The Tulane Green Wave have hired New Orleans Saints wide receivers coach Curtis Johnson to replace head coach Bob Toledo, the Associated Press reports. The AP got comments from Saints players on the hire, including receiver Marques Colston and quarterback Drew Brees:
"He's coached a lot of big-time players and he's been around a lot of big-time football," Brees said. "He's great for Tulane's program and the direction they want to go. They got a great coach in Curtis Johnson."
Johnson coached for the Saints for five years, having previously worked for Miami, San Diego State, Cal, SMU, and Idaho. He was born in New Orleans, but raised in Idaho, making him at least mostly a local for Tulane.
Toledo coached Tulane (it's confusing every time!) for five years, never bettering four wins in a year.
