Notre Dame has been burning up the recruiting trail under Brian Kelly, and the Irish are still on fire on National Signing Day. Anaheim athlete Troy Niklas — he may play on either the offensive or defensive line in college — has committed to Notre Dame over USC. Our Notre Dame blog, Rakes of Mallow, loves Niklas' size (he's 6'7", 243 pounds), and also loves snatching him away from the other big boys:
Great news for the Irish, who went head-to-head with the Trojans and came out with another big athlete win. In addition to Notre Dame and USC, Niklas also had offers from Stanford, Oklahoma, Florida, Nebraska, Tennessee, UCLA, Cal and Oregon State.
Huge get for the Irish, although it's a question as to whether the big guy lands at defensive end or offensive tackle.
