Sometimes, when I hear things like "Joe Paterno uses Skype to talk to recruits," I'm just like, "Psssh, NO WAY JOE PATERNO IS OLD LOL." Fortunately, Penn State is recruiting one high school player, Ohio running back Will Mahone, who smartly decided to capture an image of Paterno using Skype and tweet it to the world.
One not-so-neat thing about Paterno using Skype — which is, fairly, a progressive move for any college coach looking to get face-to-face with as many recruits as possible — is that it will give announcers all sorts of ways to riff on the tired "I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks!" routine when they broadcast games featuring the 84-year-old Paterno this fall.
But the really neat thing about Paterno using Skype and a recruit using his iPhone to do it is that it's only a matter of time before Paterno uses a time machine to go back to the beginning of his coaching career, tell himself that he's someday going to use a handheld video phone, and blow his own mind.
