The game of the week was supposed to be such an easy call. The Michigan Wolverines breaking with tradition to play under the lights at the Big House against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Both teams wearing futuristic throwback jerseys. Two of the most storied teams in American sports. And so forth.
After Notre Dame lost at home to the South Florida Bulls, a little bit of luster has been knocked off this one, and I really don't know what luster is or if it can be knocked off or maybe buffed off or torn off. Let's just hope Notre Dame and Michigan can play a regulation game of football without any multiple-hour delays. But still, we can agree to call this game important because lots and lots of people are going to watch it.
Elsewhere, the Alabama Crimson Tide travel to play the Penn St. Nittany Lions. The South Carolina Gamecocks and Georgia Bulldogs provide the SEC East conference opener while the Mississippi St. Bulldogs and Auburn Tigers break in West play. Your Thursday and Friday nights this week: all sorts of PAC-12 vs. Big 12 action, clinically proven to guard against sleep.
