The New Orleans Saints have a really good offense, and probably always will as long as Drew Brees is there. They also have a really bad defense (as in dead last by an average of 57 yards allowed per game last season), and probably won't be able to seriously contend in a strengthening NFC until they can turn it around on that side of the ball. With that in mind, our Saints pick in the bloggers' mock is in...
Team | Player | Position | Height | Weight | Class |
15. New Orleans Saints | Alec Ogletree, Georgia | LB | 6'3" | 237 | JR |
Travis Dauro: "After having the worst statistical defense in NFL history, the Saints are obviously in dire need of some defensive players. After signing cornerback Keenan Lewis through free agency, the team can look elsewhere in the first round. "The 6'3", 237-pound Alec Ogletree is a excellent prospect that would immediately start for the Saints and contribute as a three-down inside linebacker. Even though he was suspended for the first four games of the season, Ogletree was still able to surpass 100 tackles (112) in his senior year at UGA. He is a fearsome, attacking defender that hits with authority and has excellent speed. If the team can correct his off-the-field issues, he will be a threat to any offense and will be in the running for Defensive Rookie of the Year." |

Here's our own Dan Kadar to break down the pick:
It’s highly likely the Saints go after an impact front seven player in the first round. After all, the team gave up 147 rushing yards per game a season ago. Which helps more? A 3-4 inside linebacker or a defensive lineman? While Ogletree is an athletic playmaker, the position is a little undervalued in the NFL. A player like Ohio State’s Johnathan Hankins could be a star in Rob Ryan’s defense. He has experience playing outside and over the nose.
That wraps up Day 5 of the 2013 SB Nation NFL bloggers' mock draft. Day 6 begins tomorrow at 9AM, when the St. Louis Rams and Turf Show Times are on the clock.
