Few would argue that Barkevious Mingo isn't one of the top pass rushers in the 2013 NFL Draft, but the former LSU linebacker may have a limited ceiling, according to Dane Brugler of CBSSports.com. Mingo's biggest issue may be his size, specifically his lack thereof:
I like Barkevious Mingo, but my biggest concern with him might be lack of growth potential...very lean muscled, won't get much bigger #LSU— Dane Brugler (@dpbrugler) March 30, 2013
Mingo measured in at 6'4, 241 pounds at the NFL Combine in February. His biggest nemesis will be offensive tackles topping 320 pounds in the NFL. Without sufficient mass, Mingo may have trouble escaping the clutches of the league's better blockers, making him ineffective against the run and relegating him as pass rush specialist.
That said, Mingo's explosiveness and potential as a rusher will likely keep him near the top of draft boards. And though it could become a problem in the NFL, his run-defending was considered a strength in college despite his lack of size. Brugler still has Mingo as his No. 2 outside linebacker for a 3-4 scheme (Mingo is No. 1 on SB Nation's board). Mingo is currently projected to go No. 7 overall to the Arizona Cardinals in SB Nation's latest mock draft.
