2013 NFL Draft all-overrated team: John Jenkins, Johnathan Hankins among defensive tackles

Between now and April 25, we will be unveiling our All-Underrated and All-Overrated teams for the 2013 NFL Draft. Each team will be revealed position by position with a first-team selection, second-team selection and honorable mentions as we see fit. We continue with the all-overrated defensive tackles.

Defensive tackle is one of the strongest positions in the 2013 NFL Draft. Star Lotulelei, Sheldon Richardson and Sharrif Floyd all grade out among the top-13 players in this class on SB Nation's big board, and all three could be off the board by pick No. 14.

The second round should be ripe with options at defensive tackle as well, making it even more important for teams to avoid spending that draft capital on a player not worth the pick. While day two will have plenty of worthy defensive tackles selected, a few players may be over-drafted.

Let's take a look at the most overvalued defensive tackles.

First team: Johnathan Hankins, Ohio State

Johnathan Hankins was a tough player to evaluate. He played a ton of snaps, so he tended to wear down late in games. Given his workload, that's not a huge negative. However, the lapses in technique are a bit concerning. Hankins doesn't use his hands well and tends to play too upright at times, which causes him to lose leverage. There is no questioning Hankins' physical abilities, but without technique, he will never get the most of them. Other defensive tackles are more polished.

Second team: John Jenkins, Georgia

John Jenkins is a massive human being. He weighed in the range of 400 pounds when Georgia played Alabama in the SEC Championship. However, for how huge he is, Jenkins doesn't consistently show the strength and explosiveness in the lower half of his body. By all accounts, he has gotten himself into better shape, but like Hankins, he tends to play upright, which can lead to a lot of problems for a defensive tackle. The raw size and ability are there, but Jenkins is far from a finished product.
