Hey, you guys - Wes Welker doesn't play for the New England Patriots anymore! Hadn't you heard that? Oh, a billion times? Yeah, us too.
The Patriots may have even preferred to replace Welker in the lineup with Danny Amendola, but they've also gotten rid of Brandon Lloyd, who never really solved the team's need for a viable threat on the outside of the formation. Enter Keenan Allen.

Dan Kadar: "The Patriots have added three new wide receivers this offseason: Danny Amendola, Donald Jones and Michael Jenkins. Amendola is obviously Wes Welker's replacement in the slot. On the outside, Jones is more of a fourth wide receiver and Jenkins may not make the roster. To concisely state it, the Patriots don't have a No. 1 wide receiver. Allen projects out as a No. 1 target just as well as DeAndre Hopkins or Cordarrelle Patterson. He just doesn't get the hype because he missed the offseason process while recovering from injury. That should push him into this range of the first round. "If the choice isn't wide receiver, it's highly likely the Patriots would take yet another cornerback highly. Aqib Talib is set on one side, but Kyle Arrington and Alfonzo Dennard aren't suitable No. 2 corners to play the outside. Given the way the board is falling in this mock, Jamar Taylor of Boise State or Blidi Wreh-Wilson of Connecticut would be sound choices. A defensive lineman like Sylvester Williams of North Carolina would be worthy of consideration." |
