2014 NFL Draft top 100 big board

With the college football season about to start, we wanted to release our first set of rankings for the 2014 NFL Draft.

Throughout the week we've released sets of position rankings culminating in our initial big board. For us, particularly  this time of the year, our rankings are more of a watch list. That's not to say where a player is slotted is meaningless. Instead, it's more of a starting point. Throughout the year, these rankings will be fluid. A player in the top 10 right now could slip down by April. At this time last year, for instance, we were high on Matt Barkley, Johnathan Hankins and Sam Montgomery. Things will change as the season progresses.

Rankings: QB | RB | OW | WR | TE | OT | G | C | DE | DT | OLB | MLB | CB | S

One thing that may not be different in April is the ranking for our No. 1 overall player Jadeveon Clowney. Unless he has a catastrophic injury or a player develops like no other before him, Clowney will be at the top. He's Julius Peppers with a better power base.

Similarly, Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater should remain near the top. While there is a tendency to overrate quarterbacks in these sort of lists (there are 10 in the top 100), Bridgewater looks pretty legit if his offensive line holds up.

If you set the rankings up in tiers, as we discussed on our most recent MtD podcast, the obvious first tier would end after UCLA pass rusher Anthony Barr at No. 5. Barr, Bridgewater, Clowney, Jake Matthews of Texas A&M and Louis Nix of Notre Dame all are clearly the best player at their position entering the season.
