2014 NFL mock draft: Johnny Manziel to St. Louis Rams at No. 2

New, comments

Could Johnny Football replace a 26-year-old former No. 1 overall pick at quarterback in St. Louis? At least one Rams fan hopes so.

It was only four short years ago that the St. Louis Rams were using the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft on Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford. In his four years with the Rams, Bradford has struggled with injuries and a lack of skill talent (which the Rams have attempted to remedy recently) en route to an 18-30-1 overall record as the starter.

Still, he's only 26 years old, so surely the Rams wouldn't entertain the idea of replacing Bradford with, oh I don't know, Johnny Football, would they? Ryan Van Bibber of Turf Show Times weighs in.

"I know, I know, I know. This isn’t happening, but Les Snead and Jeff Fisher aren’t making this pick. I am, and I’m tired of seeing a Rams offense struggle to score 20 points per game. They’ve added linemen, they’ve added receivers and now have three years of coaching stability. It’s time to get a quarterback that can do something more than 6.4 yards per attempt. Besides, JFF fits nicely with the speedy receivers they're assembling, and even in a run-heavy system, they can more effectively attack the field deep, a la Seattle. Oh, there's also the advantage of cap flexibility in changing quarterbacks."

Dan Kadar, our beloved NFL Draft analyst, has some thoughts and opinions to share on the Rams' mock draft pick of Manziel:

Well, this is something. Of the three big Texas A&M players in this draft – Manziel, wide receiver Mike Evans and offensive tackle Jake Matthews – Manziel has been connected to St. Louis the least. If this pick were to actually happen, it would be the stunner of the draft. It would be ironic if the Rams cut Sam Bradford now. He actually showed some promise last season before getting injured.

We're two picks into this year's mock draft, and we're two-for-two in seeing quarterbacks selected. Will the Jacksonville Jaguars keep the streak alive when Alfie Crow of Big Cat Country makes his pick at noon ET? Tune in to find out!
